Master(ful) Suites
The master suite is one area of the house where you can, literally, bathe in luxury. If you are able to add a little room to the suite – either by adding on to the house or stealing a little room from an adjoining area – there are few limits to the imagination.
One way to add additional comfort and warmth to the master bedroom is with a fireplace in the room. Unless your existing space has a chimney handy, you’ll probably want to go with a gas fireplace – these can be vented through an exterior wall or through the ceiling with simple ducting. These fireplaces can be added to a wall near the bed or, if you have the room, to a wall that divides the master suite into a sleeping area and sitting area.
If the master is on the second floor, adding a door to an outdoor balcony or private deck is a great way to meet the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee. Depending on the deck size, french doors can add even more dimension to the room.
Bathroom options are nearly limitless. Double vanities, a sleek tile floor and walk in closets are naturals, but you can really up the ante to make the basics extraordinary. Vanities come in several styles and designs and can be made any size you need for added counter space or to included a seated makeup space. By adding radiant heat under the tiles, you’ll never have to endure a cold walk to the shower again.
The closets can get glamorous, too. Various kinds of woods and hardware can give you the sleekest of looks or more subtle elegance. Closets can be constructed to almost any specifications, allowing for a mixture of hangers, open shelves, and drawers. And if space allows, you could even add a second closet for the hers and his treatment.
